Over the past 50 years, I have created many collage works. For this large-scale work, I tried to express my thoughts on nature by renewing what I expressed 40 years ago in my work "Beyond the Forest.”
A different world is born out of the layering of washi paper atop black that has the feeling of lacquer. From underneath the soft washi paper, a jet-black darkness expands. I now think this represents how the power of humans can overcome all hardships.
I feel that the overlapping washi becomes an expression that causes a natural feeling about the passage of time, amendments, and changes.
