De Santillana was fascinated by color in glass and explored the complexities of pigment and light wavelength throughout her artistic career. The pursuit of novel expression, particularly experimentation with the rare green-yellow hue of synthesized uranium, led the artist to the Czech Republic. There she precipitated a shift in color—brighter and less veiled—and a formal change towards the slumping of a free-standing cylinder that collapses naturally with gravity.
