Using clear lacquer and the powder of oxidized copper, Jihei Murase creates a finish unlike the rest of his body of work. The blue-green tones of the copper are iridescent, refracting the rays of light that fall upon the variable, yet smooth surface of the powder-coated lacquer. The metallic exterior so deftly betrays the wood and lacquer medium that one can hardly believe the weightlessness of the hollowed Elm.
