Illuminated by shimmering silver, Matsubara’s indigo moon and motif of circular stars is heard in the form of a Buddhist ringing prayer bowl. The textured scene is set off against the red underlayer of bengara iron oxide. Whereas the blazing sun represents man in Japan, the moon stands for the cyclical changes inherent in all women.
