With pottery roots stretching back to the Momoyama period (1573-1615), Tsubusa Kato (b. 1962) was naturally drawn to porcelain. Kato began his career working with mixed clay and mass production, but after five years, he started his studio in Tomika-chō. His works have been exhibited extensively, including at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exposition, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria & Albert in London, and many other museums in Japan and Europe.
