The irregular contours of the body of this jar, made by Kan Kishino, Sho’s brother, hint at the artist’s hand as he formed the vessel on a potter’s wheel. This jar uses a wood ash glaze, as the wood burns in the kiln ash falls on the pot to create a natural glaze that runs in distinct lines down the side. As light shines on the jar, it highlights the contrast between the reflective wood ash glaze and the warm hue of the roughly textured body.
