Laura de Santillana’s cut black diptych are a step towards her signature focus on the cold-worked tablet form. The two screens are echoes of one another defined by irregular edges and distinct slumping forms that reveal the true colorful iridescence the artist deployed to realize the illusion of pure blackness. Whereas the dark surface is all encompassing, the worked edges provide a poetic brightness like a halo of light.
