Chrysanthemum and Rice

November 08, 2019 - November 14, 2019

After the imperial succession rite on October 22nd, the first Daijo-Sai (Daijo Festival) is performed. The Daijo-Sai is where the new emperor offers newly harvested rice to his imperial ancestors and the deities of heaven and earth, consumes the rice himself, and prays for peace and abundant harvests for the country and its people.
To this day, continued from the ancient history, Japanese people worship Amaterasu-Omikami at Ise Grand Shrine by offering rice every morning.
At Ippodo Gallery Ginza, we collected art and Kogei surrounding the theme of emperor, chrysanthemum, and rice to celebrate Daijo-sai.
