Furutani uses Tenmoku, oil spot glaze, for his tea bowls.
The shapes are simple and bold; the main emphasis of Tenmoku is the ceramic glaze and with the element of randomness, Tenmoku has a philosophical appeal to the Japanese.

Tea masters who developed the Japanese tea ceremony promote the aesthetics underlying Tenmoku pottery. Furutani’s Tenmoku tea bowls contain an elegant light and possess a unique iridescence signature to the Tenmoku glaze.
