The garment called the kimono is the national costume of Japan. This garment, when sewn to that the sleeve opening is small, is called a kosode. The kosode first evolved as a garment in the fifteenth century, but it was not until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that it was popularly work, It was usually worm closed with an obi ( sash ). But long- trained kosode such as these two examples were worn slipped on as outer robes, the train trailing behind.
