ABOUT IPPODO GALLERY
“I” [eeh]: One, unique, top, begin, first, finest

“po” [po]: a grain of rice, symbol of Japan, bring fruit and life

“do” {doh]: a place where people gather

Ippodo Gallery’s name reflects our purpose and commitment. As rice is the essence of Japanese culture, a symbol of life, and nature, Ippodo Gallery honors the traditions of life and presents gratitude for nature. Ippodo Gallery marries the world of Japanese reverence with the heart and soul of impactful and high-quality artwork.

Founded by Keiko Aono in 1996, Ippodo Gallery has been fostering and supporting living Japanese artists through her belief that life is an art form itself.

Continuing and expanding upon this belief overseas, Shoko Aono, in 2008, brought Ippodo Gallery to New York City and has since continued to present and support the beauty of Japanese Kogei art.

Ippodo Gallery’s collection expresses a contemporary sensibility which is alive in the essence of nature through the variety of art forms including ceramics, lacquer ware, bamboo, painting, metal, textiles, glass, woodwork, stone, calligraphy and photography.

The gallery also collaborates with artists to give birth to new creations, rituals, and ceremonies in order to share the experience of Japanese culture with the world.
