A dark, sumi-e charcoal encrusted moon glints by the light of a silver halo. Waves, gently lap along the shore, are illuminated by the singular moonlight. Matsubara’s ‘moon sound’ series began in 1981 on visiting his brother's temple in Imajo, Fukui prefecture. The spectacular scene, echoing within itself, stretches beyond the bounds of the washi paper with no end.
