De Santillana was considered a foremost expert in the workings of colored glass, having overcome many challenges of the medium ,such as its susceptibility for breakage at large sizes due to variable tensions. The artist was attracted to the Czech Republic in 2016 by the chance to create works that deploy the green-yellow of uranium unobtainable elsewhere in the world. The vibrant orange is de Santillana’s synthesis of pigment and uranium combined.
